Philosophy
Fred’s Dissonance is committed to bridging rural and inner-city communities through intergenerational storytelling and cultural exchange. By centering experiential learning, power-sharing, and radical belonging, it fosters connection, eliminates loneliness, and builds sustainable ecosystems where communities thrive together.
Fred’s Dissonance is built on the philosophy of narrative justice, cultural empowerment, and transformative leadership. The organization believes in centering the voices of the Global Majority, ensuring that individuals—especially youth—are not just included but are actively leading change.
Core
At its core, Fred’s Dissonance operates through a power-sharing model, where decision-making is not centralized but distributed among community members. Each event is intentionally co-created with local individuals who hold lived experiences, ensuring authentic representation and active participation in the process.
Deeply influenced by Afrofuturism, Fred’s Dissonance reimagines a world where the voices and experiences of the Global Majority are not just recognized but serve as the foundation of progress. Through storytelling, healing, and collective action, the organization works to reclaim narratives, build community power, and create spaces of true cultural exchange.
-
In a region where culture shock is deeply felt, Fred’s Dissonance provides a bridge for communities to grow together by amplifying voices that are often unseen and unheard. The best way to break barriers is to listen directly to those whose stories are rarely part of the mainstream narrative. Through intentional events that center marginalized perspectives, Fred’s Dissonance creates space for communities to engage in authentic dialogue, challenge assumptions, and foster cultural appreciation.
-
Fred’s Dissonance comes from cognitive dissonance—the tension between attitudes and behaviors. After being hit by a drunk driver and working in multicultural programs, Fred saw how people longed for connection but lacked intentional spaces for cultural exchange without substances or superficial interactions. The name reflects that gap and the mission to create authentic, sober, and transformative community experiences.
